Now, I love all your comics pretty equally, but there’s a perspective I think you’re missing on this, even if this comic was all in good fun. I’m not sure if you understand entirely, but you’re really, really, REALLY good at weed comics. You’re filling an under-loved niche with a level of quality we didn’t know existed both visually and in humor. The Pasta Adjective Heist comic should be put in a museum for its sheer creativity. So it makes sense that when you switch to something else, a few boneheads won’t respect your desire to branch out into other areas and demand that you instead churn out the content that *they* want. Don’t let it get to your head man, it’s just a curse of having such an outstanding niche skill.
Media that’s just about weed and only weed tends to be kind of boring, IMO. One of the reasons that I’ve enjoyed the comics over the years is that it covers many facets of life, from living in Wisconsin to anxiety to interpersonal relationships and politics. Weed is just another facet in that mix, and that’s the way it should be. If I wanted to only read about weed, I’d pick up a High Times.
That being said, the weed focused comics are particularly good. I can understand why there is a demand for them.
I appreciate the kind words! And, dude, tell me about it. My website never did better and I was never more confident that I actually had the corner on something than when I was making weed comics. I didn’t stop because I have some aspirations to be a classier comedian, I just can’t get high without having panic attacks anymore and it feels disingenuous to be making weed comics when I don’t really have a right to be. And I certainly can’t retell the same “oops, I’m too high” joke over and over again 😉
Go you man, I’ve always loved your comics (weed related or not). I wouldn’t care if you moved on to other topics; I think you’re super talented and I’ll keep reading no matter what.
