The Travesty of Waterpipes
Belgian surrealist painter René Magritte was once a teenager, laid out on the basement couch taking fat rips from his Belgian surrealist bong. His mother would later confront him with the bong, which she had found expertly hidden on top of the dresser and underneath a pillow case. René, ever the quick thinker, reassured her “This is not a bong; it is a vase.” Years later the conversation would become the inspiration for this painting.
